Esmeralda is currently serving as Assistant Principal at KIPP DFW TRUTH Academy. She previously taught 6th grade math at KIPP TRUTH for four years.

Prior to joining the KIPP team, she taught 7th grade math for two years at YES College Prep- Southeast Campus, part of YES Public Schools in Houston, TX and served as seventh grade level chair. Soon after, she returned to her hometown, Dallas, to join the KIPP TRUTH team for the first time. After working at KIPP for one year, she joined Uplift Education and helped found Hampton Preparatory School. There, she taught 6th and 7th grade mathematics as well as 5th grade math lab and was 7th grade level-chair.

Originally from Mexico City, Esmeralda immigrated to the Dallas, TX with her parents at the age of six. In the year 2000, she was the first in her family to graduate from high school and matriculate in a four year university. In 2004, she received her B.A. in Electrical Engineering and Hispanic Studies from Rice University in Houston, TX. She currently lives in Glenn Heights, TX with her beautiful 6-year old daughter and supportive husband.
